Rebecca Bennett (she/her)
Hi, I’m Bec! I’m a queer, disabled, multiply neurodivergent psychologist. I have a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences with Honours from the University of Queensland.
My clinical practice is heavily influenced by my lived experience of disability and neurodivergence, as well as my professional background and experience.
Please note that due to my own chronic illness, I may need to cancel sessions on short notice. I will always attempt to provide as much notice as possible, but due to the fluctuating nature of my conditions, these cancellations can be same-day. Please keep this in mind when considering whether I am the right practitioner for you.

My practice is impacted by my involvement in research and advocacy spaces, which has given me skills and confidence in interpreting research as well as understanding of the disability advocacy landscape in Australia.
I was on the co-design committee for the WWDA LEAD project (national summit) in 2022, worked as a research assistant at various points throughout my undergraduate degree, and worked as a research officer following graduation.
My Background
As a practitioner, I am interested in understanding your challenges beyond the surface level. My initial priority is to build a sense of trust and safety, so you feel as though you can bring your whole self to therapy. I focus on understanding you and your world so that I can provide useful and affirming interventions in the areas where they are needed. I often focus therapeutically on cultivating self-compassion and self-understanding. I typically work with clients long-term, particularly clients navigating complex trauma, and do not expect therapy “progress” to follow a linear timeline.
My areas of expertise include the following:
Neurodivergent folks (e.g. Autism, ADHD, complex trauma, dissociation and dissociative experiences, demand avoidance)
Folks who are disabled, chronically ill, and/or experiencing chronic pain (e.g. POTS, EDS/HSD, MCAS, long covid, ME/CFS, and more)
LGBTQIA+ folks (e.g. folks exploring sexuality and gender)
Folks navigating individual and systemic barriers (e.g. ableism, adjustment to diagnosis, systemic barriers impacting quality of life)
Folks navigating life changes and transitions, unmasking, burnout, and executive dysfunction
I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Person-Centred approaches. I tailor my therapeutic approach to each client and work from a neuro-affirming, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed lens. I welcome feedback and am more than happy to be told when something isn’t working!
